Homecoming 2010

Homecoming 2010 will be a celebration of the village the way it was and as we enjoy it today.

There will be opportunities to see folks at work quilting, making and mending nets, building a boat, and carving decoys.  The grand opening of the new exhibits installed by the National Park Service in the Salter-Dixon House, the Post Office, the School, and the Lifesaving Station will take place during the day.  Letters may be stamped and sent from the Portsmouth Post Office.  The Cedar Island Methodist Church Choir will lead a hymn sing in the morning, and Connie Mason will provide us with an opportunity to sing more hymns in the church in the afternoon.  The well-known musical group Molasses Creek from Ocracoke will provide a musical show while we eat our dinner on the grounds.  There will be time available to visit the new exhibits and other houses that may be open.

These events will begin at 9:00 AM and continue into the afternoon.  Additional information about Homecoming will provided soon, so check back for details!  We hope you will make plans to attend this celebration of Portsmouth Village.
